Well, rather than tagging this onto the tail of the original post, I'll just post a link here. I had to make the skp into an executable zip file, so you should be able to click on the link below, tell it to save the file on your drive, then run the exe file to unzip the skp. www.sawdustersplace.com/Sketchupfiles/PlaneProto.exeLet me test this right quick. OK, tested it and it seems to work.

My virus/security program intercepted my download saying it was Suspicious... "duplicate system file"... I stopped & aborted the D/L. ( )

Duplicate system file??? What kind of OS are you running, that one of the system files is named PlaneProto.exe?
Create a temporary directory on your desktop, then download the file to that... telling your virus program to permit the download regardless of suspicion. That file's OK - I've checked it out myself. Once it's there, go into the temporary directory & run the file - it's a self-extracting executable ZIP file; it'll self-extract into an SKP that SketchUp can recognize.

Hey Tim,
I like it. If it were mine, I'd probably round off the square parts of the tote at the bottom though. It's sweeps down gracefully like a gentle breeze and then bam clang, there's some square there. Or was it by design? Lotsa stuff, I don't *get* right off the bat.
Thanks Jer for hostin' it so we could see it.

Ya know how much of a pain it is to sketch in them curvy things??? I do wanna' roll over the front & rear corners some, & generally clean it up... and I've got the wear bars on & the chipbreaker, & I've opened the mouth for better chip flow, & pulled the two toe dovetails closer together... Dunno if anyone notices, or even if it makes much difference, but the front knob is an original, too. The classic front grip on this type of plane is rectangular, and I can't see how it could be comfortable in use. I crossed the prairie with this one, making it an ambidextrous wide elliptical knob that should fit the palm either direction.

I noticed that the front knob wasn't no run o' the mill knob.
I've diddled in Sketch, even drew myself a heater, but I'm not on your level Tim, great work there!

Jerry, thanks for the link! i am downloading as we speak - on my new wireless network... Timmer - I am always WAY behind the curve when it comes to technology. My mother had to tell me what a blog was -- I had no clue whatsoever! I always assumed the younger generation would be ahead of the older... apparently not in my case! thanks again guys, john

thinking about the miter plane deisgn.... i cannot figger out if'n i like the two-knob style or not. on one hand, i like it b/c you can push or pull without wierd hand contortions... BUT a full tote gives one so much control when pushing --- not sure if a knob would have as much control.... thoughts? Tim - I am not trying to be a pain - just thinking about kinks before you actually put heat to brass! NOW - with a miter plane used as a shooting board - is there a better way to orient the knob/tote to makie it easier to use? i have never used a miter plane - always just make do with a jack or LA block... how about a pivoting knob like the L-N 112 (or 212, cannot remember)... just thinking out loud -- scary, i know john
