Boodrow, nice shop...little cluttered for my taste...and it wouldn't hurt to start crushing those cans (you can get a weeks worth in a gallon bucket if you crush 'em) Fred, I really like your tablesaw set up. It looks like you have plenty of room, too. I figured I'd see an old hard hat or a set of chokers hanging up somewhere, though. " BTW - all you guys with full cabinet saws - SUCK", yeah Leo's right

. A friend of mine gave me one a couple weeks ago , I run it on the small propane bottles like for a grill. The amount of heat that things puts out is amazing. Ive been warned it was a gas hog ?? Any truth to that and how do u like ur heater? Boodrow[/quote] Mine is natural gas, it runs off a gas well on my property so it is free. It keeps the shop between 60 &70 degrees. I moved up the wall when I put the lathe there. It is unvented so when I'm out there working I keep a window open a few inches. It is infered so it heats objects instead of air, doesn't need a blower. Sometimes my head gets to hot working at the lathe. Dave I got a cellar full of old hard hats and a bunch of chockers and shackels in the shed where the tractor is. I keep most of my lumber in an old barn.

Yeah my tiny shop is cluttered , comin close to build a new one , perferably a 30x24 and keep this shop for my locksmith tools , and other BS I have in there.
Ben I like the last item u posted , the fridge is great! I dont have room for mine so I have to walk back and forth to the garage to get a cold one , not bad unless its rainin , Have made a rut that looks like a cattle trail to the fridge. By the way U have an outstanding shop! Would love to have one like it.
I give all my beer cans to a co-worker , his granddaughter crushes um and she needs the money , single mom. Boodrow

Thanks Boodrow. Did I see swin lathes in your shop? What size is your shop? It's hard to tell in pics. Mine looks bigger than it is in pics. Then again, I don't think you can ever have enough space.

Ben my shop is 12 x 20 , and I do have 2 lathes. Both Jet , one is a 10x14 the other is a 12x20. When im heavy into makin stoppers and such , while im waithin on a coat to dry , im turnin on the other , has worked good for me. If u noticed I have both of um on a A frame set up , my back will not let me stand for any period of time so I turn sittin on my arse. Again ur shop is the cats meow , id love to have one like it. Every time I go over to Codys im reminded on how so little space I have. If my finaces go like I plan maybe a metal buildin will be in the near future. As I type weather here is bad , hail is beatin the chit out of my roof. Boodrow

Hey Boo - you and I got a lot of the same stuff - but mine is prettier than yours.. I don't know if that is a good thing or not. Thanks Cody. Now I feel like I am at home. Nice stuff there. I don't have a mortising machine -- Sure could you that on Michelles dresser. Wish we lived closer. It sure would be nice if we could all get together.

I had missed the mortising machine. I had to go back and look for it. It's like Where's Waldo I also wish I had a dedicated mortising machine. I have the drill press attachment and it works good enough I guess.

Leo if u lived closer Id sure let u borrow it! I bought if off craigslist , new in box for 200.00 Not a great deal but good enough to buy it. And yeah id be nice if we could all get together , that would be a hoot. I was at our national trainin center a few years back and had a class with a guy from framingham mass. Real good guy , but he talked funny, ;D Leo , what is the deminsions of ur shop? Looks pretty roomy to me , but again u have to see what im workin in. Ever time I start to use the planer , jointer or some of the other stuff , I have to suffle chit around , that gets real old. Id like for some of u felles that has posted pics to give what size they are. Leo thanks for the offer of the snow blower , but I dont think it would get much use here, hehehe Thanks Boodrow

Mine is just a standard 2 car garage, probably 20 X 24 feet. Never actually measured it, but I've go a couple feet either side of the big double garage door which should be like 16' wide, and it is a little deeper than it is wide. Of course there is a little "landing" about 2 1/2 - 3' feet wide at the end where it's connected to the house, maybe 4" above the rest of the floor. Got two of my benches there but it makes the hand tool bench a little taller than I'd like.

Mine is 26' x 26'
The doors are 8' tall doors and I think 9' wide. Made in Canada (those folks know how to make garage doors)
Ceiling is 10' high
Upstairs area is 12' x 26' with about 8' in middle and 4' at the wall. It's an 8-12 pitch. I use it for some wood storage, and other stuff.
Heat is 60,000 BTU propane, on a thermostat.
I have a 60 amp 240v sub panel.

Mine started out as a 30x30 garage. We tore the solar bin out (long story) and I gained 10x25. Then I decided to get serious and TRY to make some money at this, and built on another 10x30.
The 10x30 is carpeted (nasty-ass used carpet, but it was free)
Forced air, natural gas heat, with air (getting kinda soft in my old age).

I closed off a walk through door on the side of the garage and added a window as well as an opening into which I installed a window style AC unit. No where near enough capacity so it gets little use.
For heating, I used to have a Dakota heater out there until I took over the second half of the garage and LOML had to park her Dakota in the driveway. Used to fire it up, drive around the block a couple times then pull it back into the garage and close the door on really cold days. The residual heat from the motor would warm the shop up for a while. ;D

Thanks for the reply on sizes it gives me more to work toward a new shop someday. Im not like one of the blow hards on this site , when I build one , thats what it will be. My debate is I want to retire in 5 years , also tryin to get totally out o debt. Im in a catch 22. My family bloodline longevity is not good. That runs in my mind alot. Boodrow

I have 18x18 and 13.5x14, offset. 513 sq. ft. total. 8'3" ceiling rough but I will probably end up with something like 7'6".
