Very well done, Doug, both the bed and the documentation of the build. I like the caps on the headboard and footboard. It really enhances the Mission look.
This is a very entertaining and informative thread. Thanks for going to the extra effort to show us the build.

Thanks guys!
And yes Boodrow, that is my Lab/Golden mix who wanted to be in the picture and seems to think I'm making the bed for her. ;D
For the record, my son brought the stain this morning and looked at the caps for the headboard and footboard and they are a go. He liked them too.

Outstanding build! The caps are the perfect final touch. You are right, changes the whole look. Amazing, what a few little lines can do.

Thanks Kyle and Mav! My 2 year old grandson already knows that is his bed...I think he is going to be disappointed when he finds out that a mattress is going to be in the middle of it - he liked to play in the middle of it like it was a playpen

Doug, He will not be disappointed. It goes from a playpen to a trampoline in no time @ all. Good thing you built it so sturdy. I have been thru 2 sets of oak slats w/ my youngest. He uses it as a WWE ring. Damn T.V.!!

I have no doubt it will be used as a trampoline...especially with a bunk above that will be a great place to jump from

Thanks for the comments Joe, I really appreciate that. Boodrow, I would be honored to have you and Cody pay me a visit. I would love to meet both of you in person. Someday, I have no doubt that is going to happen... And you most definitely get to have the new bed and Cody will have to make do with the guest room. We have another bed in there so he won't have to sleep on the floor with the dogs, but it won't be as nice a bed If you guys ever make it up here I'll make sure I stock up on the Natty Lite and Corona And I made the bed up just in case you show up early...here is the pic Actually, I was just making sure that the mattress fit has no problems so that if any changes need to be made to the platform, I can make the mods before I finish up the bed platform. I'm doing this from the seat of my pants without any plans, so I need to make sure I have not screwed something up before I start staining and finishing the bed

the mock up looks awesome, doug. Glad to hear other kids use their beds as trampolines and wwe rings.

The bed looks great, Doug.
Just know, however, that I would really like a Lone Star quilt on my bed when Boodrow and I come visit. It will likely be a while before we get out there so you should have plenty of time to piece it and quilt it...I prefer hand quilted to machine, too. ;D

Thanks Mav, Fred, Cody, and Mr. Burns. Cody, I'll get the better half started on that hand sewn Cowboys quilt right away - I know how much you need your beauty sleep

Doug, I'm curious... "Bunk" beds usually consists of two beds... one on top of the other. Is this bed the bottom or the top? Are you making another one? ;D Edit: OOps... I went back and read the 1st post..." For now, I just need to get the full size bed done and the loft or upper bunk bed won't be needed for a while."

You got it Joe. The upper bunk won't be needed for a while - the 2 year old Grandson's brother is still just a bun in the oven right now. I think mom and dad just want to get him into his own bed before they end up with all 4 of them in a single bed Here is the pic we are using to pattern off of, except that we are going with a mission style.
