The previous 3 pics are how I hold the short pieces while cuttin at the miter saw. I always got a little nervous with my fingers that close to the blade. I dont use the clamp when Im usin it , just to hold in it place while a took a pic. The last pic shows where I glued sandpaper to the holder to keep from slippin. Boodrow

Last batch of pics are how I find the center , almost always the blank it not square on the sides. I split the difference and use a center punch to make a starting hole for the 5/16 brad point drill bit. The center punch mark doesnt show in the pic , be careful on softer woods , I have split the piece usin to much force on the center punch before. The center punch mark helps the brad point bit goin straight to the hole so the bit wont wonder off and mis drill off center. The first pic shows a simple center finder I got from Craft Supplies. The duplicate pic , which I screwed up is a little fuzzy but its showing my digital caliper showing 5/16. I tend to always do that, once I picked up the wrong bit and drilled to big a hole ruinin the blank. Also notice I mark the bit with blue tape for depth.

The last 3 pics just shows the tap set up I use , only thing I really have to comment on is I tap the softer woods only part of the way down. The hard wood like bois de arc or mesquite I tap all the way. This is kinda of trial and error. When screwin to the mandrel it can get a little hard screwin on , I also recomend while the blank is still square to back it off the mandrel a little and re-tighten. Ive has some I didnt know if I would ever get loose. Let me clarify one thing I posted , by tapin the soft woods only part of the way doesnt mean not to screw it only part of the way. Be sure ever blank is seated against the mandrel before turning. I have things I gotta get done and will post the rest of the pics later on today. Boodrow

Thanks man - looking good so far. Just one thing about posting pics - and it's fine the way you are doing it, but the little button you click to make those brackets appear - you can click the button, hit return a few times, click it again, etc.... that way you are posting several pictures on each thread. When you copy the direct link from imageshack - paste it between the first two brackets - and then click on "browse" and you can select a different picture, host it, and then copy the direct link, etc..... If that doesn't make sense - just keep doing what you are doing, it's workin! Zac
