Hey guys. Merry Christmas.
I'm looking to make one of my showers a "Hot water on demand" setup. Any recommendations on what the best units are?

Are you thinking electric tankless or gas (natural/propane) tankless?

Kerry, I am a Sr. Service Tech for the gas company. Most of the builders in this area install Rinnai tankless water heaters. They come in various types. There is one model that has a three stage burner, varying the amount of gas used according to the amount of water being used at the time. They can be installed in a closet, basement, or on the outside wall of the house. I have never had a trouble call regarding a tankless. They seem very reliable. If you have one installed make sure the plumber uses a correctly sized gas line. The only problems I have seen come from too small of a line. Depending on the delivery pressure from the meter and the length of the run you should have a 1 or 1 1/4 inch line. The only other thing is you must use a special stainless steel vent. The cost is more then a tank water heater but from conversations with customers the cost of operation is significantly lower. And the instant and continuous hot water is great. Found the website www.rinnai.usHope this helps.

My son had one of those Rinnai tankless heaters put in his house and he loved it. Cut his gas bill way down he said. From what I have been told the electric ones are not that efficient.

Yeah, stay away from the electric types. Bosch also makes a gas fired tankless, but all the plumbers I have talked to say they are not very reliable units.
