Hey guys - so, I placed an order from Woodturningz on Wed. morning, it shipped that day (they said it would) and it was here today! Amongst some other supplies, I ordered a bottle stopper chuck for the lathe, and some stopper kits. I'm limited to what I have on hand for "thick" stock - so I used some Cherry, I think they look nice. Now - I've got a lot to learn (don't we all?) about turning "face plate" work...now - this is more spindle than face plate, but I mean.... like - doing a complete round over..... I'm not quite sure how to make a perfect "ball" yet - I just kinda went with the flow and came out with these two. Seriously - no throw aways, these are it! Oh - and got a NASTY cut on my finger when I went to pull a fresh piece of 320 grit sand paper.... like a paper cut....but with sand paper! Yuck! I made a shop bandage.... paper towel and duct tape. It held strong through the sanding process!! Oh, and - neither bottle were really made for cork stoppers...so - the fit may not be quite like what it should be.... the one on the left (wine bottle) I realized after making it.... there is no need for something that long, so the next blank (Wild Turkey bottle, FYI it's used more in making spicey/sweet pretzels than for drinking) I made shorter and I personally like the shorter one better...though - the loner one has more "woop-dee-doos" Thanks for looking, Zac

LMAO Zac! You got it bad my friend! They don't call it the VORTEX for nothing Those are great bottle stoppers, and I never heard anyone complain that the only "thick" stock they had was Cherry! I still can't believe how fast you have taken on your turning projects. Great job!

looks like a good start. bottle stoppers are fun and easy to make. the hardest part is coming up with a different styles of stoppers. I end up making the same 3 or 4 over and over again.
