and decided to try it out. It made very nice uniform round beads. SWMBO did not like the feel of those nice rounded beads, so I flattened them out. I told her that made the tool almost useless, but it does make the beads evenly spaced, even if I don't use it the way it is supposed to be used. I thought that someone might want to have a matching pen for one of the Pentel pencils I have started making so I tested the tool out on a pretty plain piece of Maple to see how it worked. Here is the tool: www.pennstateind.com/store/LCMBEAD8.htmlAnd here is the pen.

I wondered about that tool.... pretty cool - glad to see the "normal guy's" results were as pictured in the magazine. Was it as easy to use as it seems? I'm not a fan of the beads at the nib like that, I mean - in my personal pen, but it is nice because it adds a variety to the pens you make - and someone else might really dig it. PLUS - 25 bucks - I don't think is bad. How do ya sharpen that sucker!! Zac

Waitjustaminute! Who you calling normal? ;D
Yes, very easy to use. It will make 8 beads, but I added an extra 2 beads by moving the tool over and that works very well too - that must mean the distance between beads is consistent.

I don't care for it that much myself on the pen, for the Pentel pencil, it is almost "gotta have it". That said, I bet you are right that someone is going to like it

22 bucks from Woodturningz

I really wondered about that too before I bought one, and I think if you could find the right sized round file you could sharpen it just like a chain saw chain, but the beads are bound to get to where they are not the same size after a few sharpenings. I finally figured that for 22 bucks it was worth it even if I have to replace it sometime down the road.

....about sharpening....
Yeah - the thing is - you aren't using this on anything rough.... you could probably bead a TON of pens before a real need for sharpening.....and because you won't bead EVERY pen.... this will last a good long time I'm sure.

Alright you guys having some fun at my expense...A real man might use his skew to make 10 beads in a row and spend an hour making sure they are all the same size...but a smart man buys a tool for $22.00 and gets the same result in just a few seconds ;D

I don't think I have ever made even 2 beads the same size, let alone 10... All kidding aside, I think the beads look really cool.... I like new stuff.
