My brother is coming home for Christmas. He bought 35 acres of land out here a few years ago. I found an oak burl on the side of a tree on his place last October and cut it off the tree: It leaked black liquid all over the place: I let the black quit leaking out of it for a few days then clearcoated the end. I don't think it helped much it seemed to have cracked pretty much by then. Sunday (14 months latter) I took my chainsaw to it and sliced it in a few directions. The wood was full of soft spots, like punky holes. Note the piece on the left, the right one is the section I used for the clock insert (the back of it) I put two coats of thin CA over the face, sanded, thick CA in the low spots 3 more times sanding after each. Clear coated front and back with 6 coats of rattle can Satin poly. I don't like the white clock insert but it's all I had on hand. I ordered an Ivory and a gold faced insert, see which of those looks better in it. I just thought while my brother is in Minneapolis (lives and works there now) it might be nice if he had a piece of his Wyoming land with him. What do you think? Thanks ~Mike

Very nice Mike. I think the gold face clock would look awesome. Show us when you put it in. Also nice thought for your brother.

Very good Mike...
Pretty!!
You could probably take the clock apart, take the White and rub it down with some shoe polish or Shellac to get a different color... then put it back together...
They come apart fairly easily...
Very COOL!

Like it a lot Mike nice work. I agree ivory would look a lot better taking the color of the wood.
