I bought some 5/8" thick UHMW plastic sheet to make a set of vise jaws with. Can I just cut this stuff on my RAS? I want to cut a "V" groove in it, to hold pen blanks for drilling. Also, how far should I cut into it? 1/2 way, or what?

I've cut UHMW Plastic on the table saw. It cuts but not really well.
For vice jaws I would say that you could cut the outside shape for the jaws on either a RAS or TS. I would use a "V" bit in a router in a table to cut the pen blank holding part.
Now a dumb question... Why not just use something like straight grained oak for your vise jaws? I think that you would be pleased with the results. Just soften the edges of the jaws with sand paper to prevent marking the pens when clamped.
