I'm going to install a central vacuum system in my house. Anyone have an first hand knowledge about the different systems and can make a recommendation? I've been looking on the net and looking for local dealers but would welcome any input.
Thanks,
Scott

LOML wouldn't have one. I don't know why because a household vacuum is another appliance that I haven't touched in decades.
A couple of friends had one as it came with their house. Neither really liked it. It seems that the long hose was the first objection and poor cleaning of carpets was the second.

A friend of ours has one and don't like it also. It may be because of the hose or unit but they say it lacks suction. They use the regular upright vacuum. Scott you may want to do some more research before spending big $$.

I used to install these systems years ago. It's much better if you install it when the house is being built, rather than after the house is finished. I used to install Nu-Tone & Easy-Flo systems. They were about the same, efficiency wise. They aren't cheap to begin with, & a lot more expensive to add after a home is finished.

Hey Scott - I made my wife happy by purchasing a Dyson ball vacuum. Now if I can just get her to use it now and then. Larry

Thanks for the feedback. I've had central vacs in previous houses and liked them. I've installed one in an existing home before so I know the challenge. I was looking for anyone who was familiar with a brand they could recommend. I think I'm going to buy a Simplicity power unit from a local dealer just for service needs if they come up.
Thanks, Scott

Scott, I installed a central vac in my house and am really happy with the system. Mine has an electric powered brush in the head. The suction is really powerful. I searched all of the local and close cities and found the price to be too high compared to purchasing over the net.
I am not at home this weekend so on Monday I will see if I can find the source for you. They did a great job, good price, delivered exactly what was promised. The unit has been trouble free for the past 6 or 7 years. bmorto

We loved our central vac, but we didn't have to install it! It worked very well, including with pet hair. Edit: We had a Vacu-Flo cyclone style.

Scott, My central vacuum is a Hayden brand with the 110 volt power incorporated in the hose to run the carpet brush. We purchased the wall plates with the control contacts so that the brush and vacuum machinery is fully controllable from the handle. We found we like the quiet operation and that the vacuum air is exhausted outside of the house after passing the filter bank. As I recall one of the good points about the Hayden is that it has a separate fresh air stream passing over the motor for cooling. I found the papers for the equipment but did not find the online store name. bmorto

I bought the Imperium CV14000 from the Central Vacuum store and I'm very pleased with the result. Gobs of suction. The folks there are friendly and are very easy to deal with in warranty work. Their web site also has a comparison table for you to compare systems as well. The poor suction problem with central vacs usually is caused by leaks at all the port and really not with the vacuum system itself. Central vacuum system is really easy to install. I did it myself without any prior knowledge. www.centralvacuumstores.com/item.php?id=7585

I put a system in and it works great. Took about 18 hours.
Thanks for the input,
