Step 1.03

I got my new jointer knives installed on Thursday, put my old backup blade in my tablesaw, and I had a little more time in the shop today.

I got the table legs to their primary size (2"x2"). I still have to cut to length and taper the legs.



I started working on surfacing the boards for the tabletop. Most of the boards are 6-8", and my jointer is only a 6" jointer. Soooo...I was face jointing by hand to prep for the planer. I'm out of practice, and a couple of these boards had some twist. I wasn't watching the clock, but I think I spent 2-3 hours with hand planes. It was very satisfying, but I'm certain I'm going to feel it tomorrow. Next up: surface planing.

Oh, I'd have to challenge you for that title Rob. There is a certain mahogany jewelery chest that I started for my younger daughter when she was about 11 years old, it had a bunch of significant issues, and is not quite finished but she is only 34 now.

Weekend woodworkers move to a different time flow, especially with costly material.

You work about 4-5 times faster than I do.

The "pack'n'play" is dual use! Not only does it keep the little guy in one spot where I don't have to worry about him getting into trouble with things he shouldn't touch...

The top of the thing just happens to be exactly the same height as the bottom of a workpiece inserted fully into my vice, so I can use it to help stabilize long pieces of wood that I'm working on.
