This is my interpretation of a Greene & Greene box. I tried to incorporate as many G&G elements as possible from the cloud lift cutout on the base to the carved zig-zags, to the protruding, rounded box joints, to the raised, overhanging breadboard ends on the top to the use of Ebony plugs and accents. The hinges are also Ebony and glued onto the case and lid. The lock is a half-mortise from Rockler and there's a two-compartment sliding tray inside. The bottom is aromatic Cedar, unfinished. Dimensions are 11 1/4 wide, 5 1/2" tall and 8 3/8" deep. The primary wood is Mesquite and the finish is Zinnser spray shellac. I thought about it while I was offshore for two weeks and began building it Thursday after I got home. There were interruptions over the weekend (the grandson) but I figure I have about 16 hours in it total. Thanks for looking.

Very nice Cody. You captured the Greene & Greene style very well. You sure are on a box building kick lately. ;D

I like those hinges... Very good picture describes them well! Brass rod in them?

I sure do like that box; it looks like something that has been kept as a treasured possession for the past hundred years or so.
But I still can't figure out what distinguishes the Greene's stuff from the Spring Green, F.L. Wright, and other mission-elegant Arts and Crafts period stuff.

Looks good, Cody.
Mesquite, huh...looks a lot like the red elm I've been using.

Thanks for the comments, all. I was really excited to begin working on the box after thinking about making it for two weeks. Jason, the finish is spray Shellac. It was still wet when I took the photo. I'll probably wax and buff it after a few days to soften the shine a bit.

Cody,
Figgin' wow! That box screams G&G IMO - nicely done. Hard to pick just a couple things that I love about it...well - as most all G&G stuff goes - I love the little square ebony plugs - very nice. The big thing that caught my eye..... on the lip of the top.... you have ebony "keys" - that "zig-zag" - that is awesome....awesomely done.
Can't belive you only have about 16 hours in this - it looks like it would have taken much longer.
I haven't commented on all of your box postings - but I think I've seen them all, they are wonderful!

Really nicely done.
Did you do that from a purchased plans or did you make your own?
I've had some Cuban Mahogany I hiked back from Haiti during my last mission trip there. I was thinking of making music boxes or jewlery boxes for my daughters.

First, Kerry, you suck for having some Cuban mahog. ;D Did you have any trouble getting it through customs?
As for my box, I sketched out the basic idea on a sheet of copy paper here at home just prior to going offshore. While at work, I thought about how many G&G elements I could incorporate into that basic design...turned out to be quite a few. The actual build was sort of make-it-up-as-you-go.
If I do another one, I'll probably tweak the proportions a bit and change the size/shape of the Ebony hinges.
