Todays turnings - 3 more stoppers. I think I found a design I like for the wood accents at the base of the Christmas tree stoppers. Two of the stoppers I have not decided what hardware to put on yet, but will either be a mini or a perfect seal.

Those are SO nice! I'm going to have to try that stuff without a lathe... somehow! How long does it take for a cone to dry? ... how do you know it is, in fact, DRY? ;D ;D

Joe, the ones I use are already dry. When you cut into one with the band saw you will know right away whether it is dry or not. The ones I pick up off the ground are always dry and ready to use. The ones I have tried to use off the tree are sappy and gum up the band saw blade and are just about impossible to drill.
I guess the best thing would be to try one and see what happens.

That sounds good!
The ONLY ones I get are off the ground! (I'm not going to climb the tree to 'pick' them!) ;D ;D ;D
I will soon do some cutting... and let y'all know what I find!
Thank you!

You did a great job on those 3. I like the bottoms to. When I make the stoppers I always make something similar to that on the bottom. It seems to break up the wood to chrome transition. I really cant wait to get my hands on some pinecones. I am going to tyler to see my dad at christmas. He has a few east texas pine trees in his backyard. I plan on pillaging and plundering. My luck though he will probably mow em down before I show up.

Yeah I have been trying to find a good transition for my Christmas tree pine cone bottle stoppers and the Bloodwood/Walnut is working better than I had hoped. I hope you find some pine cones to play with I know what you mean about the mowing...I got lots of my cones from the University and when they would mow under the Pine trees it would always ruin some really nice cones
