This is my first natural edge bowl. I didn't have any problem keeping the bark on, but I think I need some practice with CA and bark, as it didn't come out quite the way I hoped it would. It's definitely not my best work, but oh well. It's for my SIL for Christmas, from an ash tree her husband took down.

I like that - I like that a lot.... looks so soft. Roughly how thick is the bowl? less than 1" ? Looks like maybe 3/4 or 7/8

Hey man, I think it looks GREAT! Looks COOL... How often have you seen a "perfect" natural edge finish? ... you just can't mess with Mother Nature! ;D Don't worry about it... Your SIL will LOVE it!

I didn't measure it, and I think it's already boxed up now, but it's probably about 5" diameter at the top, so the walls are only about 1/4" to 3/8" thick.

Nice job.... ash is a great turning wood. I've worked flat projects with it before, but I want to say this is my first time turning ash. I thought it was a bit on the stringy side, but maybe it was just this piece of wood.

Nice bowl, Rob. It's pretty deep, too, relative to the diameter.
If you have any more of the Ash, it spalts pretty dramatically. Might be worth saving a chunk and letting nature have it's way with it.

I can't just looking at the pic pick up the start and stop of the end grain, thats pretty cool, does Ash always have that characteristic?
Nice looking.

I can't just looking at the pic pick up the start and stop of the end grain The way I happened to orient the bowl for the picture, I think, it makes it difficult to see. If you look at the left side of the first picture, you'll notice a couple shallow divots that picked up the light from the flash. That's a tiny bit of tearout from the endgrain; it's much more noticable in the picture than in person.
