Excuse the pics... I must have changed some setting on my camera... more probable, the LOML did when she took the camera to Callaway Gardens ;D This is a set of pens a co worker ordered.... they are Tiger Maple cigar and Euro in chrome. This is a Bloodwood Slimline in copper. Thanks for looking.

Looks wonderful Marc. Questions - those black lines/bands on the Bloodwood pen - did you burn those in or are they carved/painted??
Also - how'd you get the names on the Tiger Maple pens? Pretty neat looking!

Nice pens Marc! I really like the Chrome kits with the Tiger Maple. I'm not a big fan of the copper kits But, I have a bunch of them, so I will probably make some. They look OK with antler, but the plating did not hold up on the ones I used

Pretty neat looking! Zac Lessee... the black lines are made by making a tiny scratch with the skew, then using a wire to burn ... the little scratch (groove really) keeps the wire from wandering all over... The names are done with wet slide decals.... then applying the CA over the top.

I will keep an eye on them... don't want to piss people off with cheezy plating....

Marc, the following link shows the plating ratings from CSUSA (woodturnerscatalog.com) www.woodturnerscatalog.com/store/print_catalog/11?Partnerid=vcs11?Args=It shows copper plating slightly higher than 24K gold plating and less than the 10K gold plating. I'm not sure how accurate it is, but it seems to pretty much go along with my personal experiences. Gold plating seems to be the hardest to pin down because there are several gold colored platings that you cannot tell the difference in by just looking at them. Nothing is ever easy, eh? edit: that link did not work. This one does, but it is kinda weird. The info is on page 97 of woodturners catalog and is called pens and plating 101.
