This is a walnut and cherry box with carved sides, finished with poly and paste wax. The lid stop is round leather. bmorto

Yes! That is really something!
Just awesome!
I like it! I like the way you carved (roughed-up) the sides and the way you made the area to carve! Really COOL!
How did you carve the sides... anyway... V tool, plain ole knife, or what?
Good job!

Great box b! I like the carved texturing you did on the sides.
BTW, your photography is really outstanding, too.

This is really awesome - did you seriously hog out all of the sides while carving - or did you rough most of it out with power tools - then finish by carving getting that textured look? Regardless - it really looks nice!! I really like how, when the box is open - you can see the Cherry rims mating together when it closes. NICE!
EDIT: Oh, and I just noticed the Cherry feet!!

The box was cut on all sides at 45 degrees with the table saw. Then the waste was removed with the router attached to a 3/8 polycarbonate plate large enough to span the gap. All of the carving was with a ¼” carving gouge. It was all nice and smooth and then I decided I wanted to try some sort of texture. Thanks for such positive comments. You are all so generous it is really encouraging. I have a Cannon AE1 that was purchased new in about 1980. This year I joined the digital age with a Cannon Power Shot S51S and it is wonderful. I picked the cameral because it has a movable viewing screen on the back. That is the best feature ever. One can hold the camera in most any position and always easily view the screen by adjusting it to your eyes. It is fully automatic or as manual as you wish. With the film camera I was rather careful about shots due to cost. With the digital I take shots like crazy and just erase those that are not to my liking. My son and I hiked to some waterfalls last weekend and it was really fun to try all kinds of settings attempting to stop the water or get the flowing effect that looks, only similar, to Tim Ernst’s beautiful work. My son is much better than I he has a real eye for composition of the shot. While we were at the falls he slipped on some moss covered rocks and really landed hard on his can. But he kept his camera equipment out of the water. His rear has been a little tender this week. Thanks again, bmorto
