I finally changed the v belt on my table saw...after 23 years. The old one was ready to give out. I might save it for old time's sake.

I agree with Joe - if ya replaced it with another rubber one, you're missing out on yet another step up - I was pretty doubtful till I swapped out the first one, on the Sears lathe. Now durn near everything in my shop is on link belts, thanks to another forum member who had some for sale. Heck, if I could I'd run my ROUTERs on link belts.

Well, Dick, ya could skip the chain link and just use some duct tape. It'll hond up for a while.

how about link belts on reeves-drives...is that a feasible option, or would the gearing chew the heck out of it...

I would think it get chewed. Those flat belts dont seem to get the memory like the v's do. Maybe cause they are so much thinner.

I put link belts on my drill press, band saw, and jointer. The reeves drive on the lathe I don't think would work Andrew.

The reason I don't use link belts is because: 1. The manufacturer doesn't recommend them. 2. Using them will void your warranty, if you still have one. 3. They are more than 6 times as expensive as a regular V-belt.
