The don't all have to be long, slim and tall. This is four and one half inches in diameter. I turned the bottom into something similar to a bowl took it off the lathe and turned a mequite ring that had shoulders>I took the ring off the lathe and turned the top that looked like another bowl and glued them all together. I shellaced the inside prior to glue up.I don't remember the exact sequence of doing things as there are many ways it could all be done, drilling the bottom hole for the grinder, shortening the rod from top knurled nut to grinder mechanism or making the top. I do remember turning the finished shape after the glue up.It is made from Mesquite(red) and either Ash or Elm.The mesquite handles were glued in, one to hold the body and one to twist the top back and forth.I'm sure its one of a kind, I thought you might like to see it and even tho it has 6 pieces in its make up, thats not my record .I have a segmented "I Dream of Jeanie" mill that has over a 100 pieces, maybe a 150. dick

Hey, I remember that one. I had just started turning and I was fascinated by it...never thought I could ever do something like that...still don't. That's a unique mill.
Thanks for showing it again, Dick.

Cody I think I unveiled it at the get together we had at Monty's house that wet cold day and Dario was there.I still have the bowl I made from the Black Locust you gave me that day but I finally threw out the log section that had that funky smell. It never did dissipate,,,,,,,,,,,WOW it smelled.

That get-together was November 20, 2004. It's an easy date to look up because it was the morning after the Pistons-Pacers brawl.
I actually turned a cup out of that stinky wood. It looked great but the smell never did completely fade...even after applying several coats of finish.

Yeah, that locust is some stinky wood. I remember picking up an old stick I'd found and mounting it between centers (both ends were squared off, but it'd been years). I stuck the gouge to it and like to have DIED, lol.
That's an awesome pepper mill, good contrast going on there.

Hey Doug, it's actually pretty wood...borwn and white like a Pinto. If you want, I can send you a small log of it. After all, I've heard of penturners casting cat chit and making pens from it. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Mighty tempting Cody, but I better pass Last time I worked on something smelly in the shop I almost got kicked out of the house. I'm still in trouble over that. It was some Walrus tusk that someone gave me and I never got past the first cut on the band saw. Man that stuff smelled bad! I still want to make some pens out of it, but I'm gonna have to take my tools outside in order to do it.
