I went with my son to a local pottery place and we (he) painted a couple of 6" square tiles. Here's the first one completed (for my wife, of course), mounted in cherry. Got another in the finishing stage in walnut for my MIL for a Christmas gift.

That is a great father-son project.
The women will treasure those forever, and probably appreciate the wooden frames too. ;D

That's cool, Rob. Great idea. Just think what that little piece of tile will be worth if your son goes on to become a famous artist.

Yep, those items will be truly treasured for life... Priceless...Nice looking trivet... Just think, every dinner / supper where a hot plate must go onto the table, that trivet will probably be used! ... to continually remind everyone of how it came into existence!

My wife actually suggested that it would be nice if we could hang it up in the kitchen when not in use, so I might be adding some kind of hook & eye hardware to it as well.
