Get you some good paint on that and it'll be there to remind you and him of the fun you had years down the road. Very neat!

Isn't it great what you can create w/ one board. I would stain and spar it myself, w/ a little bit of round-over on those edges. Looks fine though as is. How old is your son? I'm sure he loved the dad time even more than the box.

REALLY hope you get to see one - they are rare.

My 9 years old grandson arrived today for an extended summer visit. His first request was 3 bird houses plus a storage box for his bizillion piece Leggo collection. Boy, is this going to be a memorable summer.
Your work inspires me.

That's a great project, especially with your son. I love Bluebirds and usually have a couple of pairs that nest around here every year. They will raise two clutches of chicks each year if nothing disturbs them.
One word of caution; the perch, while looking great, is not necessary for Bluebirds and will even encourage Sparrows to use the nesting box.
The NABS site (North American Bluebird Society) has all the info on Bluebirds if you are interested.

Yeah, the perch wasn't in the plan, but my son insisted it needed a perch. So, it has one. I didn't glue it in though, so the perch might "mysteriously" disappear.

My dad died before I got a chance to know him, but I had a mentor who did that sorta thing with me. he might forget the techniques used to make the box, but I doubt he'll forget the time spent. My mentor and I made a bunch of stuff, I don't remember a third of 'em and don't remember how to recreate hardly any, but I remember the time spent. Oh, and nice nesting box!
