Dick, that crazy box is my Table saw extension and out feed table. Made from 3/8" ply. Wish I would have used 3/4". The top is kinda sinking. Guess I could put center support on it and it would be fine.

Thanks Leo. I'll be looking for that kayak, and soon. I know you will get to it when you can. You thinking of using cedar? I think I may try my next one from redwood. (if wife permits). Jerry, I feel that I must do my absolute best if I'm gonna post on THIS forum.

The difficulty of finding good clear cedar around here made me think if I get around to it, that I might go with Cypress. There's a place nearby that has some very nice clear stuff. Not sure about weight comparisons, but portages would not be a big issue for me, just getting it in and out of the lake, an that's what they make winches for.

Boy you ain't kiddin' about finding clear cedar. I went to 3 different yards and still couldn't get what I was looking for. I think if I use cedar again, I will have to make my own 1x6's out of 4x6 beams. I guess they use the heart of the tree for those , because that was the only cedar I could find w/o all the knots. I bought the knotted stuff and won't do that again. Had to trash just about every other strip. Takes about 80 strips for the build and I must have made well over 125 and still have more knots than I would care for. Oh well, Once glassed they will be fine. Actually like the character it gives the wood, but hate the PI the A of breaking strips and using a butt joint. Cypress would make a beautiful boat, I believe. May have to give that a look as well.

I guess the ultimate proof of your craftsmanship is when you put her in the water and see how she floats but so far I am amazed at your skill and speed. You do wonderful work and I'm thoroughly enjoying being able to follow your progress.

Way too old and clumsy now, had a 16' canoe for fishing in the 69-70's. Wife and I ran the Brule river when we were young and foolish! ;D

But when you run rapids in a 2 man canoe with your wife in front there is nothing as exhilarating or memorial especially when you finish the run still upside! ;D Getting old is a real bitch!

Lakes fellas ... lakes don't have rapids Unless you live in Arkansas or Oklahoma City. My gosh, did you see all that rain? I've seen flash floods before, but nothing like that. Mother nature is a beast.
