As said before, colorgrains aren't my thing, but your pens are done right. I do like that stopper - never would have thought of pairing those two woods like that, but it's pretty dang cool and looks pretty close to symmetrical.

All very well done. I was not a huge fan of the colorgrain at first either but hard to argue that dougs masterpieces don't look great. I like em.

I swear guys, the colorgrain pens get the most attention of any pens I make. The ladies absolutely love them. And if you ever see one in person, you can understand why. They really are eye catching pens. Every one I have ever made has sold very quickly.
John, they are a pain to turn...think plywood cut at an angle. I have had problems with some of them losing a layer or two right at the nib or finial end, but the nice thing is that if you can find the piece that blew out, it can be CA glued back in and you cannot even tell that it was patched back together. A sharp skew really helps prevent the blowouts on these blanks. And it is very possible to sand the last few thousandths down to the bushings - I almost always do that instead of turning to final dimension.

doug, thanks for the tip. i had a suspicion they would be difficult. plywood on an angle. cripes, i can cause tear out on clear maple
