Thought I had a Eureka moment three days ago. Took all this time to realize I was wrong. Still struggling with centering my designs and squaring the box pieces. Made the little sled with the mitered stays to pin the chevrons in place on their center line. Then it occurred to me that I was going to joint the pieces on their ends, not sides. So, had the Eureka moment: "Aha! now I understand what they've been explaining. Rip first if jointing the edges, cross-cut first if jointing the ends. This will surely center the design!" Couldn't wait to get to work. So, drew a line across the tips of the design. Aligned those tips with the saw blade, and moved the miter gage to get the correct angle. Cut all the chevron tips off. Then put gage back at 90* and cut the edges. Thought this would produce square pieces . That it didn't is a mystery I will never understand. Not a single piece was square, and the design was all over the map! So, started over, making my little box smaller than I wished, but had no chevrons to pin! My little, unused chevron sled looked up mockingly! ;D Had to do it the hard way. One piece at a time. I finished the sides of this little box today, after a week of messing with it From Cody's thread on senility: I can't remember how I finally fixed it so will be doomed to repeat my mistake! ;D

Seems my math never produces what I'm expecting either. I guess there is a reason that I had to take a math correspondence course to get out of High school. Would have failed the final exam on that too but the Principle took mercy on me and allowed me to mail the test results myself. Needless to say, I steam-opened the envelope, fixed most of the wrong answers and got my diploma on time. I call it honest cheating. He knew exactly what he was doing as I talked w/him about it years later. Great guy he was. I think they all just didn't want to spend another year w/ me.

You Didn't! ;D I memorized everything and promptly forgot all of it after the exam! I studied very hard, and for very long, but it never stuck.

I usually have a "EUREKA" moment in the flashing second that comes after I realize I've done it all wrong and wasted a lot of material. art
