One of my co-workers that has bought a lots of stuff from me over the last 3 years wife works at an oil and gas bidness. They just got a bonus check and his wife thought it would be a good time to take some of my turnings to work with her. Last Friday she took a bunch and sold 229 dollars worth. Then the company I do bidness with in PA ask me to send new pics of some of my turnings. Got a call today and told me to put 3 cone stoppers aside and consider um sold. They were still showin others that worked there the stuff. Just goes to show u if the things u turn are visable to the public most likely they will sell. So im over 300 for the week , and after 3 years of turning , buyin wood , tooling , lathes , chucks and etc. I think im finally in the black. And I have to tell u ive spent alot of money the last 3 years on turnin chit. Boodrow

Having a very fine quality product, like all the stuff you show on here, doesn't seem to hurt business sales either! Plus showing it on here makes me, and possibly others work all that much harder to try to reach that caliber of products. Thanks and Congrats!

Congrats Boodrow!!! That is really quite an accomplishment. To honestly think you are in the black - that is GREAT!
I can't totally fund my hobby and the fun of it all with the money I make - but I've certainly been able to pay for the majority of my expenses.

Boodrow,
Just think...you will never have enough stuff ready for those long weekends at craft shows if you keep selling them to everyone. None of those $80 table fees either!!!!
When you go to the store for milk....take a pen, be sure to use it in front of someone. Most of sale take place within 2-5 minutes after the "Oh, that's pretty!" comes out of someone nearbys mouth! Show your product at every chance you get!!!!!
Question: You don't happen to have a vineyard nearby do you???

So natty lights for all your peeps to celebrate? your buying. good job, sounds like you have a good agent. I am with beamer. I try not to weigh money made versus money spent. sometimes I will be ahead but long term that would be a depressing thought if I think about it. If I tried to make any money or advertised that would help. I have a hard time getting motivated on doing that. I just like doing it more than getting paid for it. Though both are nice. I also like doing stuff for family and friends. I seem to turn down paying stuff that doesn't peak my interest or creativity but then jump all over stuff for family and friends when they ask and its for no pay. If its something stimulating I am all over it. I would love to have both my choice of what money making jobs I wanted and still have them be stimulating projects. Right now people have less money for hand made stuff and would rather hit wally world or go without. Which makes your achievement even more of one. Good job.

Congratulations, Boodrow!
That is a milestone that most of us hobbiest woodworkers will never reach...making this hobby self-funding or even better, showing a profit.

Thanks fellers , Ive spent alot of time in my shop the last 3+ years , and let me start off saying doin this work is just like theropy to me. Get home from work , kick back for a bit , go to the shop and quit when im tired. I generally work in my shop 7 days a week. If I counted my labor there is no way I would be in the black. Another thing that has come out of this is meeting new friends locally at the wood turning assn , I dont think I would have ever met Cody if I hadnt got into turning wood or Stretch. I love talkin to these 2 guys , I always walk away with new info and tips on how to do things better or quicker. On the other hand Ive made a lot of internet friends through this forum and would like to have the oppurtunity to set and jaw with them aswell. I have to also say ive learned a lot coming to this site. the knowlege that is here is great. Any way turnin has been good for me. Thanks again guys for the comments. And yes there is a vinyard here in etex. Ive talked to them bout my stoppers. They was not interested. They had there own they were sellin , mass produced pieces of chit. Wouldnt even look at my stoppers. Boodrow
