Thanks go out to Cody for the spalted Hackberry used in these 2 pens. Very nice wood and hard to get a pic that really shows how nice the spalting really is. One is a Classic roller ball and the other is a Classic fountain pen. Thanks again Cody. I love this wood!

Excellent color variations. I have to do a lot of paperwork and I've seen a lot of pens that just don't look comfortable to me, those look like pens you could keep your paw wrapped around for 8 hours without ill effect. (In better terms, you could write for 8 hours and not get your hand so tensed up you could crush a golf ball, lol).
On both, what's the material between the wood and the tip/nib? The black portion? I like it, especially with the gold band on the caps.
TJ.

Thanks TJ. This was my first roller ball, but I've made several fountain pens in the same kit. The black part is metal, but other than that I don't know much about it. It is not plastic, and the finish seems pretty robust.
The nice thing about these kits is that you can interchange the components easily to convert from roller ball to fountain pen or the other way around. That bottom component just screws on to the lower turned barrel and both components are the same threading.
I have been using a this roller ball this evening and I am really liking it. It really is a nice pen to use - smaller and lighter than a Cigar pen, but more substantial than a slimline or saturn pen. And the roller ball ink stick is really really nice. I may have to change out my daily use pen from a Cartridge pen to a roller ball. I wish I had tried these sooner! We will see if this new pen kit keeps it's appeal for me in the long term...

That is a good looking rollerball/fountain pen!!!
Where did you get those kits?
Still have some spalted hackberry from Cody myself, hmmm....... Not sure I could get the finish to come out quite like that. You did great!

Thanks Scott and Les! I appreciate the comments. Scott, the kits came from PSI when they had a special deal on them - I think they were getting rid of them because they were going to change to a slightly different kit. I don't think they have them anymore, and Woodturningz did not have them at the time so I had to get them direct from PSI. I know that there are a couple of different sets of instructions and it gets a little confusing, especially trying to make sense of the translated Engrish Les, that is my normal CA finish, but the wood characteristics makes it look like a satin finish.

Thanks again Cody. I love this wood!
You are perfectly welcome and I must say that you did the wood proud. Those kits look great with the spalting lines.
