I want to have some more antler stoppers for the upcoming craft show in Ruidoso, so I got to working on some. One blew out and I was having a bad day in the shop until LOML helped me figure out how to salvage it. Long story short, I ended up putting some pine cone on the top of an elk stopper and things may never be the same for me again ;D Seriously, I love the look of using Bloodwood, pick guard, and antler together...and now I can add another favorite material to the mix...Pine cone! I have to hand it to LOML - I would never have thought of doing this but I really like the way they are turning out. If I could combine the 3 stoppers into just one, I would have the ultimate stopper...every one of the 3 has something that could be better, but I'm going to get this perfected before the craft show for sure. Sorry, I forgot to resize the pics, but now Tinypic is a PITA to use and I am not going back to do that all over again. Dang I hate change when it is for the worse!

Those are GREAT Doug.....I find myself wanting to buy stopper and pens from other turners just because they are turning out so great. Your gal was right on with this idea!

If those are the result of a 'problem', maybe you should create a few more problems and bring the lady out to 'help you fix them'?
Truly outstanding stoppers! Those won't sit for long in your display!!!!

Thanks guys. Yeah I can usually count on the little lady to help me find the right solution to a problem. I think she really hit on a great idea on this one. I had a blow out on the top piece of Bloodwood just when I was about to finish turning it (of course). I thought about turning it into a tenon and then gluing something over it and we were looking around the shop to see what was available when she remembered a piece of drilled out pine cone left over from a pen I made. It had a hole in it already so I decided to let the Bloodwood tenon show through. And I liked it! Boodrow, I traded my cousin for some Elk and Deer antlers. He lives up in Elk country and goes out looking for the sheds every Spring. I am going to try to get with him when I go to Ruidoso Memorial Day weekend and see if he has any more. I'll send you some - I'd like to see what you might come up with combining antler and Pine Cone too - I always get good ideas from you Boodrow.

Don't be Boodrow. One of the things I like best about this group is that so many of us are so willing to share the good stuff with each other...be that materials or ideas. Dang! Somebody lend me a tissue to wipe this tear from my eye Never mind, I just used my shirt sleeve ;D
