About time I did something on the lathe again. Been a while coming. This is a pine cone that was green when I got it about a year ago. It seemed like it was dry enough to turn now, and it drilled fine, so I wanted to try it out. Finally got to it today and it seemed just like the dry ones I usually use. So, this was a beneficial test for me and it made a nice stopper to boot. I don't really want to wait a year to let a green cone dry out, but now I know it can be done and it gives me another option for collecting cones. Accent woods are Mesquite on the bottom, then Walnut, then Bloodwood. I refuse to stoop to using Ebony like Boodrow recently did ;D And another view, this one from the top - that is always my favorite part of these pine cone stoppers.

You nailed the center on the top thing!
The 'accents' on the bottom are great, the colors make the stopper really 'pop'!
Scott (glad to see ya spinning again....thought we lost ya) B

Thanks guys. Glad you guys noticed the centered top...Boodrow's centered one made me want to put some effort into centering the cones. Now I just hope I can do it again...that particular cone was very straight and symmetrical. Cody, if I ever run out of Bloodwood I guess I'll have to use Ebony

Nuther nice'n, Doug. Love the PC, and the center came out dead on at the top.
Now that bloodwood looks good on a pine cone. Was Boodrow's just not as red the other day when i suggested something darker?

Yeah, I talked to Boodrow about his Bloodwood and he said he had to start using a new stick and it just was not as red as the one he was using before.
I am lucky that all the Bloodwood I have gotten has been nice and dark red.
Oh yeah, the nice thing about Bloodwood is that it is supposed to hold that red color longer than other red woods like Redheart. I know that most woods will end up losing their color or getting much darker over time.
