Haven't posted anything in awhile, but have been working on a number of different things simultaneously. The first is a smallish bowl (5" X 2") made from some Dogwood that had been cut down and just laying in the weather for a couple of years. It was alot of work finding bowl sized blanks amongst all the splits in the logs. I especially like the burl grain at the base of the branch inclusion. The second is another out of the same piece of Dogwood, but an entirely different shape. About 4" X 2". But this one got really thin in the bottom because I lost track in-between multiple turning sessions. Soaked it in CA to give it some strength. Finish on the Dogwood is sanded to 500 grit, then multiple coats of wipe on poly. Finished with Beal buff of White Diamond and Carnauba wax. The third is from the Garry Oak I've been experimenting with. I think I was patient enough finally in the roughing, DNA soaking, drying phase, to nearly eliminate all the checking. The little bit that remained and didn't turn away, is hardly noticeable. The figure and color of this type of oak is really unusual. About 5 1/2" X 2". Finish on the Oak is sanding down to 500 grit, then multiple coats of Walnut Oil. Let it cure 24 hours between coats, then lightly scuff with 500 grit before each additional coat. It was then Beal buffed with Tripoli, White diamond, and Carnauba waxed. Thanks for looking, and sharing any opinions or comments you might have. Mark

Hey, you almost made a funnel Mark! You can always claim it is an intentional feature you did to see just how thin you could make that bowl bottom And I absolutely love that Oak. Fantastic character in that wood! Nice job.
