Just finished ordering a Apollo Infinity Gold Titanium Gel Rollerball Pen Kit Starter Package from PSI, and sent a request to a maker of burls&swirls for two blanks.
$33.40 for the two rollerballs(comes with bushings, drill bits and trimmer sleeve) $28.95 for the two blanks
Hope it doesn't equal a big expensive mistake? Guess I need to treat the wood with CA while turning??
Scott (so, now I wait on the mail and PSI) B

As for treating with CA while turning, depends on what the wood component is, may or may not be necessary.

A little scary isn't it? Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Can't wait to see the finished product.

A little scary isn't it? Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Can't wait to see the finished product. When I first decided to do a few pens, I always wanted to do a nice rollerball for myself and the LOML....you know, a post-able cap with great wood. Just never got the great wood, so I didn't bother ordering a rollerball. And so much for just a few pens....running out of room on the desk to lay a pen down! Guess I've got about 50 slimlines ready for the show coming up in August! Not sure if I'd call it scary.....paranormal activity-where the girl gets drug out of bed by her ankle(wife didn't sleep for two days....hehehehe), that was scary. I just would hate to mess up $40+ worth of stuff by not knowing something. At least the 'special' from PSI is making it easier....the kit and all. Comes with drill bits, bushings, and trimmer insert....plus the two pen kits(as long as they send everything as advertised). And actually choosing the burl&swirl blank, whew!....at least I had the photo to help choose, but the outside never looks like the inside. So why bother with the photo choices?(Guess it makes you 'feel' better having a choice??) Guess photo's will be done when it gets completed? Scott (at least I'll have some more drill bits) B

Hindsight says you should have skipped the burls and swirls after yesterdays adventure! E It would have put me about 10% closer to getting a 14" bandsaw.... Guess I'll be ordering more kits(can't find anything wrong with more kits)!!! Scott (you got burls & swirl tree there too??) B

If you're wondering at all about the Worthless Wood, and how to turn it, ask Curtis - he's turned a lot of them, and can give you some tips.
I'd highly recommend that you try turning some plastic pen blanks first, as they're very very different from turning wood - if you don't know how to turn plastic, practice on the cheap blanks first, before trying the Worthless Wood.
