It was bowl turning! Having only turned 3 bowls in my life - and having only one of those to succeed - I don't pull out the bowl gouge very often. I'm also not terribly artistic with that kinda thing so I don't get too inspired to do much bowl turning anyway. But the veef came to me about 2 months ago with these (maybe it was 4 months ago) little ceramic dish thingies - They hold about a cup and a half of whatever and she wanted me to turn her some lids for 'em. She talked me into buying this big wide plank of Iroko way back when and I never did find a use for it. Well it managed to split right up the middle over 50% of it's length. I'm still irked about that. A 10' long, 16" wide board split right in half for nearly 6 feet total (it split at each end). It's nifty wood - supposed to be a substitute for Teak - and it had this neat ribbon looking figure to it that I thought would be nice ... for something ... dunno what. When it split, though, I ended up with a lotta these half-width pieces - about 6-8" wide and of varying lengths. Kinda greasy feelin like it has some natural oils in it, too. Anywho - i set about turnin' a lid from some of this stuff and the first try failed due to poor design (wall was too thin for a jam chuck). So here ya go:

I like it! That's some pretty stuff and you did really well on the turning and finishing. Congratulations. I won't comment on that white dish, though.

Not bad Beam. Never heard of the wood, but it's very nice.
Love the countertop BTW.

The lid looks great Beamer! Looks like you found a good use for that piece of wood. As for the white dish...maybe some burn lines on it would help
