Well, this if the first flatwork project I've tackled in years. Have gotten tired of digging through bins and piles to find the particular disk of the grit I want at the moment, so made this multi-tiered compartmentalized box. The box weighs more than all of its contents combined, but it was a good learning exercise anyways. Top tier is for 1" disks and all the other doo-dads. Second tier is 2" disks and MM Pads Bottom section is 3" disks Wood was a single piece of BORG 1 X 10 Hem-Fir, so nothin' special. Dovetailed the corner joints, and dadoed in all the ply sheet pieces. Joinery and wood movement need lots of improvement, but just gotta get in and try it again. Planed this board to 5/8" thickness before cutting all the pieces from it. It was not quite straight to beign with, and as soon as I ripped the four widths, it took off. Oh well. The layers are stacked just as they came out of the board, but I didn't go to the extent of matching grain on the corners like Gecko has recently shown. I've got a long ways to go to be that skilled. Axious to get back to three bowls I have in-process on the lathe. Thanks, Mark

Looks great to me, Mark and it is a highly functional piece. That, IMHO, is the primary concern with shop projects.
How do you like those sanding disks with the scalloped edge? Is there any advantage to using them?

Cody,
The scalloped edge disks "feel" softer when trying to get down into a tight corner inside a bowl. The scallops extend past the edge of the pad, so you can get into contoured areas alot easier than the continuous edged ones. As I deplete the solid edge ones, I'll be replacing with the scalloped ones.

Very nice! Amazing the stuff you are forced to make for your lathe stuff! Even flat work stuff sometimes - almost like REAL woodworkers. Zac

That looks like it should do the trick. Now where do you put all the used sandpaper that is to good to throw away? Just kidding. I need something like that.
