3 stoppers, 2 pens, 1 fan pull....

Last minute things getting ready for my craft show tomorrow and Saturday.


I want to thank Scott for turning me on to Picasa3 - it's actually pretty easy to work with - it's kind of a weird medium between a photo editing program and being tied to the picture files on your computer.... took me a little bit to realize I have to SAVE the pictures before the changes will show up when I go to post the pictures on TinyPic.










The Cherry light pull.... Boodrow as kind enough to get me a couple kits while Craftsupplies is sold out - (kudos!) and walk me through making one. Oh - by the way Boodrow, the 10-32 tap worked just fine, not sure if it is the perfect match but it worked fine for our purpose - anyways.... not sure I really like the design... It's weird for me to be shaping something so small... I think my initial stock was a bit small to be trying to get a light pull out of - but anyways...we'll see if it sells. I may try to make another using something larger to start with.


Lastly is just a picture of the stopper portion of my display. It is in fact a small army of stoppers.... actually - I have enough now that I can't even display them all at once - if I had an 8' table instead of 6' I could get them all on there.....


Please comment/critique and let me know if my photos are getting any better? I've been trying to play around with them a little more - I got a tripod for my camera, taking the pictures on the biggest file size setting I can and then cropping them down in Picasa3 and adjusting some settings once in Picasa..... oh - VERY cool feature - it allows you to "straighten" crooked photos, it works with decent results.

Great looking display Zac, and your pics are fantastic too. I have been using Picasa also since Scott told us about it. I like it a lot too.

The stoppers are great - I like the designs...at first I thought the Verawood one was too plain, but it is really growing on me. I think some people are really going to go for the clean line look of it.

The slim looks a little fat on the lower end for my tastes, but there is going to be someone who will love it and you can't go wrong with Zebrawood no matter what.

The Cigar in spalted Hackberry is my favorite! That is just awsome. I don't think I would have chosen the chrome plating but it really works with that wood - might have to re-think that when I make something from the spalted Hackberry Cody sent me.

Good luck on the craft show! You don't need luck though...you have some great work and it will sell if there are any buyers at all.

Oops, forgot about the light pull. I don't like that shape at all! Sorry. But that is just your first one and I have no doubt you will come up with a couple of designs that will really work well.

If you think the Verawood is too plain I could add burn lines haha - j/k.... I went for something very plain.... it has a real nice striped grain pattern that runs throughout (I knew this from previous turnings of Verawood) and thought a plain look might be nice. We'll see....... for some reason....the pattern and the colors remind me of 60's/70's wallpaper! lol

The slim is a little fat - but holding it feels good..... I generally prefer a slimmer pen, myself, but between the look of Zebrawood and a nice feel - I think I can get it sold eventually.

Cigar... funny you should mention the chrome.... I have been pairing up my spalted hackberry with Gun Metal but WT was sold out (thanks a lot Scott, I know it was you!! ) I wanted to finish the pen for the show so I went with chrome..... I still would have gone with gun metal if I had a kit on hand, but I don't think this was a bad decision at all.... I've had some spalted hackberry that was REAL dark, like mostly blackish... I still wonder what a chrome kit would look like on that.

Yeah - the fan pull - it's basically a turd on a gold string.... I may be pulling the kit off of the pull before the show! lol - I have a cocobolo one on the lathe as we speak, a little later I'll spin that thing and see if I can't get more of a fan shape.

Looking at an enlarged version of the picture with all the stoppers..... isn't cocobolo funny.... I don't think you could mess up cocobolo if you tried. It looks pretty no matter what you do. I was fortunate enough to get a couple really cool "eye" patterns in some stoppers - one of which (second row from bottome, smack dab in the middle) has kind of a "cat's eye" thing going on - it has that vertical "slit" right in the middle of the "eye".

Zac ur first pull reminds me alot of mine. Kinda a dog bone look, which is fine but will be hard to sell. One important thang to remember is ur goin to be sellin most of these to women. Let ur imagination run wild. At the last show me and Cody did I sold more pulls than anythang else. Be patient my friend it will come to u. I have to say this , for ur first one it looks pretty good.
The other work u posted looks very nice. I wish I had got into turnin when I was ur age. They are lookin great.

Thanks Boodrow - yeah I'll probably pull the kit from the dog-bone and use it on another. Frickin' craft supplies is STILL sold out!

I made another one later today out of Cocobolo - it looks TONS, repeat, TONS better, but it's already packed away in the car. If I don't sell it tomorrow I'll try to get a pic of it.

Zac the pulls are great sellers. Try to be artistic in the design. I turned one that looked like a spinnin top , thought it wouldnt sell , was one of the first to go. Again I will post some pics of my pulls other than cones for u in the next day or so. Im not sure if they is here at the house are at work

Like that scott? lol - yeah - didn't know how else to describe it....

I'm sure WT put the gun metal cigar kits at the top of their priority list....they might even have them back in stock by now.
