have not posted my pens in a while. these are posted because i am finally happy with a finish. the pic quality is horrible. THANK YOU TIM! these are lacquer dipped using Timmer's primer. they are thrice-dipped and came out well, i think. first is Padauk with gunmetal Designer... from Woodtunringz second is Maple burl (thank you Zac!) with chrome Saturn... from Woodturningz. This is not a pen --- this my son, Callum, and I standing on a snowbank in front of the house during our February mammoth snowstorm. Just found the pic and thought I would share john

Nice job John - I hate the Euro kits, but they do look nice! Nice medium between slim and cigar. Both pens came out well from what I can tell - the pictures are a little dark. So was it a chunk of maple that you cut up? I can't remember what got put in each box, that's why I ask. Your son looks happier than a pig in chit - look at how much snow you got piled on your roof!! Looks like 'bout 18" or something. Zac

Maverick, you didn't get that foot this year? My parents live up in Weatherford, and they got a foot of snow after Christmas.

Nice job on the pens John! I really like the Saturn pen kits too. Euros not so much - if they just had a better finial than that dome... I love the centerband on them and the size of the pen is great, but that cap just does not work for me for some reason. Good to see you pushing that PM lathe to it's limits And that snow! Chit that's a lot of snow! I miss the snow from when I lived in Colorado, but I sure don't miss driving on snowpacked and icy roads. And then the mud when the snow slowly melts...don't miss that neither

hey all, thanks for the kind words. i messed up the designer pen though --- i did not realize the importance of the thickness on the top... so it is thinner than the center ban but a smidge. i just did not realize how it went together... BUT lesson learned. Scott -- thanks so much for the pic help! man, i looked at em and said, naaah, cannot be the same... this a point and shoot nikon that i bought my wife for xmas last year. i just cannot get it to talk turkey with me. it has a mind of its own. the white balance setting, eh? i will TRY to mess with it. i like hand tools, power tools, tractors, and dirt. and i shuffle paper every day in my office. but i HATE electronics Doug -- i have the nova 1624-44 - and BOY is she pushed to her limits with these monster pens i wish i had a PM. 'course, then it would just be another underutilized tool in my shop. like my delta mortiser i bought at an auction 6 yrs ago. i have never actually used the darned thing. but that is another story Zac, now i cannot remember - maybe the maple was from Gecko too... OHHHH! yeah, sorry. the burl WAS from Geck. you sent me blister maple. DOH! but hey, they are next and no matter what, thanks for the wood thanks all john

Oops! I thought you had a Power Matic for some reason. Still, that nova 1624-44 is a nice lathe.
Who was it that got a PM lathe?
