That's my kinda picnic table! It ain't gonna end up racking on ya years down the road.
Pine? Topcoat?
Store bought frame?
I like your back yard, too. Looks cozy (and private).

That is WONDERFUL looking!! I was surprised to find how expensive pre-made picnic tables actually cost.... especially one that looks THAT nice. Definitely something a guy should make for himself if he has the need and ability to do it.
Nice work!

Thanks Dave. Yes sir I wanted something that would last for decades. I made the frame from 2" iron pipe that my Pops had laying around his barn. Used his welder also. (one more toy I need for myself). The wood is, you guessed it, pressure treated pine w/ Behr Redwood sealer. Do you think I should top coat it w/ a spar or will it react to the sealer at all? It has a nice shine to it as is. Hope I can just use it as is. The back yard is a nice change from my last house. I'm on a 1/2 acre lot so it's actually quite spacious. Still need to build a patio cover to beat that Sun. Not looking forward to that expense. Going w/ cedar,20'x15'. Zac, you are correct sir. The price of these things is ridiculous. Installed one for one of our clients last month and we paid $500. It was ALL pine and no finish on the wood. Thanks for the kind words. Now, for the tree guards. I'm gonna pressure wash that old cedar sealer off of them and use the same Behr sealer, so that it all matches. Also gotta re-do the yard swing. Needless to say I'll be busy today.

Great looking table, Gomer and a beautiful lawn. That Redwood sealer looks fine as-is. I'd just watch it and if it starts deteriorating quickly, then clean it up and put a coat of Marine Varnish on it...as you know, I prefer Epifanes. I see some potted plants along the fence that I assume will be going in the ground, too. You're gonna be busy but a nice back yard like that is worth it. Edit in: I guess you saw that the Rangers finally won a game last night. Oliver got his first save in about ten years. Maybe that will get them kick started.

That stain color really does make it stand out and I like the white pipes. Good choice. I usually go with function over what might look best too. why build stuff if not to use it. In the end it usually is the best idea and looks the best. This is another example of that.
To beat the sun in my backyard I have one of them sunsetter awnings. the biggest electric one they have. So I have a little remote I push to have it go in and out and stop it. One of the best purchases I ever made. Had it 4 years now I think. Our back deck is like an outdoor room now. The sun was horrible back there, it also keeps the heat in a bit on colder nights, keeps the rain off us if we want to be outside, keeps the back kitchen area cooler as well. I put rope lights on the back and front of it. Have a tv mount on the back wall of the house that I throw my little 19inch lcd on. Watch minnesota twins baseball, have a beer with olives in it, grill, and watch the boys play in the yard. Pretty much every night I am home in the summer I am on the beck deck. I know I sound like an imfomercial but I do love the thing.

Thanks Cody, I've got some of Epifanes on order now. Got it for my second canoe. So, if it does, I will. The plants on back fence are Crepe Myrtles that I planted last year. I have to keep a guard around everything. Otherwise my dog hikes his leg. He already killed my Silver Maple. That is when I decided to build the tree guards. They seem to be working. Although, as you can see, that little Magnolia is strugggggling. Rangers: Something needs to get them going. Oh well, I'm used to it by now. I look @ it this way. It is the price that I have to pay for having 5 Super Bowl trophies. Joel, Gracias to you as well. I agree w/ white, plus it matched the Lawn furniture I built last year. I wish I could use that electric patio cover for mine. The homeowners ass'n. wont allow it. Total B.S. It has to be a shingled roof. Never again will I join one of these organizations.

Gomer,
Got to say great color from the staining. And the white 'pipes' give it a very professional look! And the surface of the table looks like something you'd see as a display table....

Thanks Scott, I like it too. To each his own I guess. I tried to find the clearest boards I could (went thru whole darn stack i think) it's just so hard to find em w/o so many dang knots. Oh well, gives it a little character I guess.

Gomer, I really have to side with your wife somewhat on the color. I know the white is a lot more user friendly in the Texas sun but a Forest green on both the table base and that outdoor furniture sure would look good. Just sayin'.....

I would have to say "Dang good idea". I never thought about green. She said black, and I knew that wasn't happenin'. So I went in the total opposite direction, as usual. She wants to kick me sometimes. Can't blame her. As you know even white paint won't last long in this sun. Painted my lawn furniture white last year and it could already use a touch-up. So, next year green it shall be. Thanks for the suggestion, Cody.

I apologize to some folks who saw what went down here ...
As much as I absolutely hate to do it, I had to delete some PURE garbage from this thread. Sorry everyone - let's try to use our heads and stay on topic, k?

Should hold up pretty well, costs more but should last a lot longer than aersol cans or latex. ~Mike

Thank you for the suggestion, Mike. I'll have to explore that possibility. Send me some of that high quality automotive finish and I'll have to explore no more. ( I know you got a stash of it there somewhere.)

Me too Joel. Was very pleased w/ the outcome. Got the tree guards done today. Now i just have to do the doghouse and everything will match. BTW- Those boys you got there look like fine young men. Don't teach ' em everything you know or you'll be in trouble.
