When the dishwasher runs, should the sink get water form it? The right bowl of the sink (non-garbage disposal side) bubbles up with water every time the dishwasher runs.
Normal?
If not, what might be causing that?

Kinda normal, but shouldn't happen. Most of the time the dishwasher drain goes to the garbage disposal. So if it bubbles up on the other side eather there is a "slowage" not a blockage on the pipe on down, of the pipe under the sink is in such a way that that it makes the suds foam and ruise right under the non garbage disposal side.

Exactly right - there's some degree of blockage in the drain line below the sink, below the crosspipe, below the garbage disposal, maybe below the floor. The dishwasher's output is running faster than the drain can handle.
Betcha' that sink doesn't drain any too fast, either, right?
Oh, hey - is the trap ("S" trap or "P" trap, the gooseneck thing) BELOW the dishwasher drain? If so... open the trap & clean out the crud you find in it. Once I found six butterknives in a kitchen-sink trap...

But it is a BRAND NEW house, right?
Maybe a conversation with the builder is in order?
It sounds like a plumber left something inside the pipe to me.

Not knowing much, but i gotta ask since the instructions on my wife's dishwasher made me scratch my head a little when I installed it ...
Could this happen if the air thingy ... inlet? I suspect it's to let air in while the DW pumps it's water out and keeps a vacuum from keeping too much water in the DW hose ... but ... if that's absent, blocked or too light, could that cause a similar problem?

I think it's most likely a partial blockage in your drain. For me I'll take care of those things when it starts to back up into the sink. Otherwise, a little gurgling noise and some bubbles every now and then is no big deal.
If you decides to take care of it, first take your p trap out and clean it well. If you don't see any thing at all in your p trap, snake a line into the drain to see if you have any blockage.
BTW I hate the rubber bands they use for the vegetables. They make the worst clog.

Well I plunged that side and it drained fine. I was just wondering about where they had it hooked up. I'd have expected the DW to be drained into the garbage disposal but it wasn't. The block was just on that one side because the garbage disposal side was draining fine. The DW itself is actually closer to the garbage disposal. Maybe I'll call the appliance mfg. and ask their opinion.
I'm guessing we got something down that side or something big slipped by the DW filter and got into the drain that way.

They didn't hook the dishwasher into the garbage disposal? That wouldn't be my preference. But then again, I'm one that beleives that a dishwasher should be able to wash ALL the crap off my plate and don't prewash.

Yeah, I'm guessing this was our problem No pre-rinse and a chunk or 3 ended up washing out with the dish water. Once you have a kid you uses regular dishes, the rate they stack up is amazing. I can't imagine 2 or 3.
