Hey Boodrow - I about died when I spent the $25 bucks for the RN mandrel - but honestly, it's pretty sweet. Since I use only her stoppers now, it's really great.
That's a nice lookin' stopper - I really like the Bloodwood/maple layers on top and bottom. The antler is nice, and I bet it's a PITA to turn with much of a rounded shape..... looks good my friend - I'm sure it'll be sold soon!

Dang Boodrow! That turned out real nice! I really like that shape, and you know I like the 3 accent wood pieces - that has been my favorite design for stoppers for some time, and Bloodwood is almost always at least one of the 3, and for sure with antler it is my favorite accent wood. That is a real nice combination of 2 Bloodwood sandwiching a slice of Maple.
You better put some dust collection behind your lathe if you are smelling the antler while turning it...that chit is bad, bad, bad for your lungs and if you smell it...well you know where it is going.
That Elk antler can be real hard on the turning tools...I sharpen frequently when I turn antler - you have to. And, it is another thing that you almost have to use a skew to get the best results with.
Great job Boodrow!

Dat's a nice'n, Boodrow.
I'm not a fan of the antler stuff (to each, his own), but the accent wood sure makes the total package look purty sharp.

Thanks for the nice words fellers. I got the lamination concept from Doug B . I like the bloodwood and maple combo. I think he is the laminate king , usin pic gaurds and such. LOL Honestly the smell reminded me of bein in a dentist chair havein a tooth drilled on by the smell. I smelled it most while turnin it and not at all sandin it. Go figure. Doug only used a 1/4 spindle gouge to finish up the cuttin on it , worked pretty good, didnt think bout brangin out the ole trusty skew. Thanks again guys Boodrow

Boodrow, Please make sure that gets cleared up. My wife got an eye infection and it ended up destroying the optic nerve. Now is blind in the one eye. Keep after it with your eye doc.

Thanks for the heads up , thats one reason I went to a eye doc rather than my family doc. I dont play around when it comes to the eyes. My mother went blind 2 years prior to her death. Im not goin through that. If I have an eye prob im gone to the doc. Like I said he dialated both eyes and looked in um for sometime. Thanks again Boodrow
