I cut up some big pieces of Cocobolo, and Mesquite today on my table saw. Made enough wood to make 22 pen blanks. I'm still working on cutting them in 1/2, and drilling them, etc. I expect to be done by 9 PM tonite or so. Man, I'm really getting into this pen blank stuff. ;D

Sure if fun isn't it? Downright addictive ;D I'm jealous now...my lathe is covered up with stuff until I get done with the flatwork project. I'm really missing turning...

Ah, I spoke too soon. I only ended up with 18 pen blanks, top & bottom, so 36 pieces of wood all together. But, that's ok, because I have enough scraps left over to make many more pen blanks if I glue them up. I have some thin Osage Orange here, I'll mix it with some Cocobolo, and some Mesquite to make some unique pen blanks. Glue is cheap, wood is not.

That's great TF! Now, if you glue up that Cocobolo wipe it down first with some acetone before gluing it and use 2 part epoxy for best results. Any oily woods will benefit from doing that when gluing it. I always use 2 part epoxy for segmented pens no matter the wood or the segment orientation. If you will have butt joints you might want to also drill the segments first then glue the segments onto the tube at the same time...that is what has worked best for me anyway. I'm looking forward to seeing some of those 18 pens you got in the works now and those segmented ones down the road Sounds like you are having fun, and that is what this hobby is all about.

Well, last Summer, I rebuilt my table saw. Cleaned it up, adjusted it, new belt, etc. Yesterday was the first time since I did the rebuild that I got a chance to use it. That new Freud blade I put on there sliced thru that dense, hard Cocobolo like a hot knife thru butter. I was fairly surprised to see that old table saw slice thru that wood so easily.
