Just heard that Dale Brobst passed away due to a fire in his shop...very nice fellow! Let that be a lesson to us - get a couple of fire extinguishers, and keep them handy in the shop...and better yet, escape first and call the fire department from the neighbour's house... blog.al.com/live/2010/04/79-year-old_baldwin_county_man.html

I never heard of the guy but man, that's tragic.
I went off to work once and left my electric branding iron plugged in for two entire weeks. Scared me when I discovered what I had done. Luckily, it wasn't placed near anything flammable.

Wow...I wonder how something like that could have happened. Maybe he was finishing and flammable vapors ignited...

Luckily, it wasn't placed near anything flammable. That would scare the hell outta me too - those things get really really hot, I mean duh - obviously, no really - mine gets so hot I wear a pair of leather gloves because of the heat that it gives off when I'm banding things. If you're in Canada, & this old dude died in the Southern US, how the hell did you hear about it? BTW, any loss of life is tragic.

Wow...I wonder how something like that could have happened. Maybe he was finishing and flammable vapors ignited... That happened to my next-door neighbor in Albuquerque. He was stabilizing turquoise in his shop & left a can of acetone open. The vapors filled his shop & ignited. Made one heckuva fire. Since we had that compressor incident here, we've now got two smoke detectors in the shop connected to three in the house, so if any one of 'em triggers they all sound off. Fire extinguishers everyplace, too. Big ones.
