I got 5 pen blanks ready to turn today. I took some blanks, and cut them to size, drilled somewhat straight holes, and epoxied some brass tubes into them. Then, I cut them down to size with my sander, and drilled out the epoxy with a pen drilling thingy on my cordless drill. Oh yeah, epoxy stinks when you sand it.  Hopefully they won't be more practice pieces.... |

sounds pretty productive to me. and I think everything stinks when sanded.

Simple tasks but done wrong and you screw your pen up from the get go. Also they are certainly time consuming!!
Tomorrow you get to make chips fly!!

I've only done one blank with the epoxy....never again(PITA). I'd rather get CA glue on my fingers, then pick my nose. Maybe I did something wrong, can't tell now...that's for sure, but the blank came apart and the pen never got assembled.
I've got to make a 'clamp piece' for the new (old) drill press, and then I won't need to change everything on the lathe tailstock to drill a hole. Not sure if it will make the holes straighter, but it'll be easier.
I didn't notice any certain smell coming off the sanding disc? What did it smell like to you??

What did it smell like to you?? Scott (like sampling a fart) B Sanding epoxy smells like something died & attached itself to your sander. It sorta smells like a skunk ate some sauerkraut & rotting peaches, then took a dump on your sander. Pretty foul, in other words.  |
