we've got a small garden along my bodyshop, had just steel posts and wire around it for years, pretty ugly and a bit of a pain to work around. I decided to make some "quick" remove panels.
Made mostly of 2x4's I had laying around, some cedar, vinyl coated wire and some ½" plastic pipe I painted green. Used short sections of ½" dowels drilled and screwed on to slip the pipe over then for the top rail I drilled holes 5/8" diameter ¾" deep to slip over the pipe.
Cedar strips finish nailed over the wire, backside.
Put a couple coats of SuperDeck natural stain.
I put a ½" deep by 1½" rabbit on some 2x4's and screwed those to my landscape timbers to accept the bottom of the panels.
Set a couple of redwood posts to attach the panels to. Using a flip over clasp to connect the panel to the post.
On the back side of the center post I just used a lag screw and washer, drilled both panels so they can be slide under the washer.
For the end panel I drilled a 7/8" hole threw the post and panel and partially into the block of redwood and slid a ¾" dowel threw to hold the panel against the building base. I ordered some more flip over clasps to tie the corner of the two panels together. They'll be here Tuesday.
Still not the purtiest thing in the world but I think it looks some better and should make removing the panels to work the garden, (till, plant, weed) hopefully easier and I do believe it should keep most of the deer and cat's out.
Got another little garden like this on the other side of the propane tank (ugly too, I planted some vines under the tank and put wire over it last year, hoping it grows over to cover it this summer) but my siding for my house came in so I'll probably let that go till next season.
What do you think?
Thanks ~Mike
