According to my records I started this in August 2008. In my defense, I moved house, job, and shop since then ... but if I'm honest, it sat completed and unfinished for most of a year! Plans from Wood magazine. Water-based poly over Golden Oak stain (not Minwax, but I forget the brand). Now I just need get the cushions made.

Nice work Jim!!
My wife has already got a pair of 'em on my list of projects. They're a dang comfy chair.
Did you have any trouble with the curved arms?

That's a very nice piece, Jim. I could see myself kicked back in one of those nursing a Corona and cheering on the Dallas Cowboys this fall. ;D
I'm curious about the arms, too. Is the curve bandsawed from solid stock or is it a bent lam?

The arms are bent lamination. The form was made out of mdf; I was saving it, but I had a pipe burst and it got wet ... and then it got BIG. Bending the arms wasn't as hard as I thought ... each is only three layers thick (each layer is 3/8"). I was leery of bending red oak that thick, but it went nicely and springback was minimal. I used the arms themselves to draw the curves on the top part of the frame ... they're just glued on, but not under a lot of tension for that reason. The group build on another forum inspired me, but I wasn't really involved in that conversation. Anybody wants to come by this fall for a couple Yuenglings and listen to Bill Hillgrove, Tunch Ilkin, and Craig Wolfley talk about football, you can try out the chair, assuming there are cushions for it. Uh oh, was that political?

The group build over on SMC?
I watched that one for awhile. I think we're sold on angular arms instead of the curved ones. I have the Stickley book that has the "traditional" style. Tho, i really like the look of a wide-slat over the narrow ones.
It turned out good, Jim!
