Here is a Welsh love spoon I finally got around to finishing. It is basswood and just has some BLO/min.spirits on it for now. I will put some Briwax on it when it is good and dry. I have been piddling with it for a long time and finally got around to finishing it or as finished as it is going to be. A few mistakes but will know better next time. I have been trying to do some chip carving and that is what the board in the backgroung is. The guy in the video makes it look a lot easier than it is....lol.

I love your carvings (whether it's a spoon or a Santa)
I can see myself learning to turn something (maybe) if I live long enough, but carving? Nah, I think that's a God given talent.
My thumb would look like mcbryde's if I was to attempt carving.

Thanks for looking and the kind words, guys.
Boodrow, I started it back when I was working in Dallas before I met you and Cody at that festival so it has been quite a while. I just got busy and didn't finish it until the other night. It needed quite a bit of sanding and I hate that part. Too many little nooks and crannies to get to. All together I probably have about 10 or 12 hours maybe? That other board is a piece I have been practicing on for chip carving. There is a book about it in the bunch I sent you. All you really need is a chip carving knife like the one that is laying there. It does take some practice to get it to look consistent. I'm still practicing...lol. I want to make a jewelry box for my niece who is graduating at Lindale this spring and put some carving on it for her. I will try to take a picture of it but I warn you it is not very pretty so far...lol.
Dave, That's why I wear a carving glove on my left hand...lol. When you make a mistake with carving knifes it leaves a lot cleaner cut than the one mcbryde's table saw did....lol. I've been pretty lucky though and haven't had too many cuts. When I do cut myself it tends to leave ugly red stains on th wood....lol.

While ur in lindale maybe u can catch me and Cody & Stretch for a lil get together. Sounds like something that needs to happen to me. Mike let us know when you'll be in Lindale so we can plan something at my place assuming no conflicts with me having a previous engagement.

Meant to reply earlier - that's pretty cool Mike - I give credit to anyone doing hand carvings - that is just something that I don't have patience for at this point.

That's pretty cool, Mike. I never saw one of those before. I might have to look into that. You say you have one and it works pretty well? I appreciate all the kind words, gentlemen. You might be surprised how much enjoyment this is. You should give it a try. I gave this to my mother in law. I have never given her anything I made so she was tickled and already has it in her what not shelf. I need to sneak it out and put my name and date on it though....lol. She asked me if I would make her a Santa sometime so I guess I will have to try to get one of those whipped out. I'm really liking Mike's current project and would like to start something like that. Just need to find the right scene or pattern.

That's pretty cool, Mike. I never saw one of those before. I might have to look into that. You say you have one and it works pretty well? Yea, I have one. It works pretty well though the sander gets kind of hot running on high for long periods of time but it works out okay for me as I never usually run it for more than ½ an hour at at time (take breaks and use other sanding methods, by hand with stick sanders etc... go get coffee ;D ) You do have to get the A/C to D/C unit to go with it. I bought mine years ago as a kit with the sander and the A/C-D/C unit for right around $100.00 I think it was. They make other tools that can plug into the unit but I never got anything else. I used pre-glued Velcro on the pads which allows me to use some gold 180 grit hook-it disc's ( I cut my own, these last much longer than the ones available for it, cheaper in the end too). It's pretty handy for most small area's. Thanks ~Mike

Beautiful spoon. Large and noticeable. Does this hang on the wall? Never seen one before.
