My process of Mission Staining Oak

Iust thought I would share it. First, sanded up to 150. Tinted with a combination of medium brown and reddish brown transtint. Sanded with 150 to capture fumed look. You can see the contrast on one of the pictures because a white quartersawn piece is laid on the table for comparison. The rays jump out and the open grain keeps the color and the rest of the grain somewhere in between. Then stained with 1/4 of Red Chestnut, 1/4 of english chestnut, toned down with 1/4 of natural, and finally added about 1/4 of valspar red mahogany.

Yep, I just want to be done with this project. I am keeping the info and my try them on a smaller scale such as the upcoming nightstands on my list.

I love what you do to QSWO. I'd say you got it down.

I tried your process way back at the old place. It turned out OK, but not like your's.

Have you put carving on the back burner for awhile?

Thanks guys. Dave, I haven't carved anything since about late November. So yes, I guess it is on the back burner. It seems when I get into doing something I become single focused and that is what I do for an extended period of time. I wanted to get this desk done and it probably took me a month or so to learn how to do dovetails. I should carve when I am at work because I have the time here and there and that works well with carving, alittle here and a little there. Again, thanks.
