I was talking to my wife last night about the auction for her school. She asked if I knew anyone on the forum who mde wooden tops and if I would make this request for her. She wants to know if anyone here makes, or is willing to try to make, wooden tops. She would like to know what woods you would need sent and what the price for 5-10 of them would be. This also would need to be a quick turn-around project. If anyone here has an interest in this, please let me know and we can work out the details. Thanks.

If I had any experience with them, I'd certainly do it....but I wouldn't want to experiment with someone elses $$$

Gecko, Here are pics of a couple different kinds I've made. One is simply a hunk of broomstick. The other is more involved, using two different kinds of wood, and gluing. They're both about the same size, which might be too small depending on the target audience. These might be considered choking hazards "in the marketplace" that demands producers protect all potential consumers from all imaginable as well as fanciful possibilities of self-harm. How quick is "quick", so I might be able to consider it? I'm about my turning activity similar to Boodrow describes, rather than "volume at speed", but am also trying to discipline myself to get out and do some everyday.

I was just told that she needs them by June 3rd. The second style both Doug and mark mentioned are the ones she likes. Let me know what you guys think.

That will sure make it easy. I really would like to see your pics too, I have been thinking about making some for the craft shows to see how they might do and I could use some ideas.

I think i might have a dozen or so in stock - lemme get through forum work tonight and i'll jump out and snap some shots I really usually just do quick simple one-piece tops for the Toys 4 Tots program our club donates to every year. One year i did 53 - i plan to triple that this year. Means i actually gotta quit screwin around with welding for a spell, tho

Okie Doke ... here we go... These all happen to be Cherry, I believe. It's what i pulled outta the scrap box. I'd be happy to pop these in a box and send 'em to ya if they'll do, Rick. If you can get any $$ out of 'em with the auction, keep it I think they'd fit in a small flat-rate box without much trouble or risk of damage. I'll pad 'em nice and such - and if need be, I'll go up a size to be safe. Since i'm already in yer debt, it'd be my pleasure to shoot 'em off to ya
