So I thought I'd share them with my friends too!!! Nothing done to the photos other then a 'crop'...... Kit: St. Charles w/Gun Metal finish Blank: Eastern Red Cedar that I cut myself Finish: CA/BLO with Minwax buffed on Probably not the best light for shootin' photos, but I didn't feel like waiting for late-afternoon light(it'll probably rain). Comments and critique very well........thank you! {I know the bushings were not correct. Calipered the ends, but they still came out a little large on the 'nib' end.....chit! There is also something funny going on in the wood between the nib and center-band.... Was sanding the thing out, but I could never find the end of it and didn't want to sand to the tube.}Scott (smelled soooo good) B

The pen is gorgeous. There's what looks like a little tearout on the sapwood between the nib and center band but that doesn't detract from the wood itself.
I don't know that there's a prettier wood than ERC and that pen is an example of some of the prettiest.

That should help out with the pen blank sales! Nice pen Scott, and beautiful wood too. That tear out is something that seems to happen in the Cedar I have too, especially when cross cut or bias cut.

A very attractive pen Scott. You might think of offering one with no finish, so the purchaser could enjoy the aroma. They'd have to realize though that its appearance would deteriorate as a consequence of being able to smell it.
Thanks for sharing it, Mark

Thanks all...
I've sanded through 'tear outs', but this one wouldn't go away...wierd?? Then again, the wood was selected by the boy...told him when he started helping me stack all the blanks that I had an extra St. Charles kit with his name on it.(This was the piece he picked out while stacking for the kit)
Was wondering about 'not' finishing it, so it would continue to have the pleasing aroma? How long would the 'smell' last?
Was just thinking that the blanks could be turned and sanded through 2k grit, and then cleaned off with mineral spirits or something.... But wasn't sure about doing that for the son's pen?
