So I am making a small "test" box to try a couple of ideas out. The top panel is some spalted curly Maple. Has a nice 3D look to it. So I am playing with Lacquer again. The wood being really dry, I literally soaked it in Watco for 15 minutes and allowed it to dry for a few days. Then I put a coat of Lacquer on on Wed. and one on Thurs. Went to sand it down tonight and not only did it look 3d, it was! All the curl was raised up. Looking across it, it looked like waves. It did sand down fine though. Amazing how much liquid a piece of spalted wood can soak up.

Never thought it would do that!
It must have been super DRY...
I wonder if just BLO would've done the same thing?
