I remembered that there was another Colorgrain blank that I really liked besides the Southwestern one. It is called Fiesta, and is very colorful. I'm glad I had another to turn. Shown with the Southwestern Colorgrain Cigar pencil I recently made so that you can see the difference.

Yes, I always get mine from Woodturningz. www.pennstateind.com/store/PKEZLAM30.htmlI got the pre-drilled ones for slims before, but I'm going to get some of those maxi blanks like those shown in the link so I can make some other pens with that colorgrain. I already haven them for the Southwest color, but these look mighty purty and I'm sure they are going to be eyecatchers at the craft shows. The Southwest is more popular here because people here love turquoise, but that Fiesta is some really nice stuff too. I hate to mention this, but these laminated blanks turn best when you use a good sharp skew Because they are bias cut, they have small pieces on the ends that will delaminate if you so much as hiccup while turning them ;D The good thing is that they sand very very nicely. You still have to sometimes sand with the grain - which constantly changes as you rotate the pen blank on the mandrel - some hand sanding is needed, but it goes pretty quickly.

I like both of them, I bet the sw goes good in your neck of the woods. Thanks for the tip on turning them since I will be getting some on my next order.
