If you've ever worked for a boss who reacts before getting the facts and thinking things through, you'll love this!
Arcelor-Mittal Steel,feeling it was time for a shake-up, hired a new CEO.
The new boss was determined to rid the company of all slackers.
On a tour of the facilities, the CEO noticed a guy leaning against a wall. The room was full of workers and he wanted to let them know that he meant business. He asked the guy, "How much money do you make a week?"
A little surprised, the young man looked at him and said, "I make $400.00 a week. Why?"
The CEO said, "Wait right here."
He walked back to his office, came back in two minutes, and handed the guy $1,600.00 in cash and said, "Here's four weeks pay. Now GET OUT and don't come back."
Feeling pretty good about himself, the CEO looked around the room and asked, "Does anyone want to tell me what that goof-ball did here?"
From across the room a voice said,
"Pizza delivery guy from Domino's."

I once worked most of a year for an idiot like that, he believed that people were inherently lazy and needed to be herded. This emotional moron was leading(?) a very motivated multi-discipline group of engineers in a tech start-up where we were primarily working for the anticipated value of stock options that would enable us to retire before 40. We learned to wait until after he left for the day to hold useful schedule review or resource negotiation meetings.

What I noticed on a number of occasions is that folks like that usually apply their own work ethic and character to other people. Was a fella on my shift in patrol who was a big time screw off. Not answering his radio when the dispatcher had a call, but suddenly available if a "hot call" went out because he didn't want to take the mundane report calls. Complained that the supervisors always seemed to be watching over his shoulder.
Then he got married and decided he needed to move up in the ranks. When he made Sargent he automatically assumed that everyone on his shift were as big of screw-offs as he was and so road everyone's a$$. Big time "company man" and quick with the pen.

I know just what you mean Jerry. My second line supervisor (my boss' boss) tried to get me to go to the assessment center for management a couple of times. I told him it wasn't worth the cut in pay and all the extra headaches it entailed to take a management job. I also told him I didn't think I was chicken chit enough to make a good manager....lol. He was a pretty good guy though and just laughed when I told him that and said I had a point...lol
