Did you have to turn it down any, or do you just use sandpaper after gluing it together? I have never done an inlay before.

mav, i like it! gotta gimme some idea of how ya did it, cuz i is cornfuzzled... i would have preferred a straight chrome finish - to mimic a chrome finish on a car. but that is just me. great pen! john

My thought when ordering it was a lot of the new hot rodders like the brushed finish too, but If they want chrome I will order another kit and change it. This was fun and easy to make. It was like making a flag inlay pen but a whole lot easier. The pieces were much easier to put together. There were 12 african blackwood pieces and the one orange piece is dyed maple.

Wow! That is awsome. I have seen that inlay kit before and wondered about it. I bet it will be a big hit!
I have never done a Sierra, but that Elegant Beauty seems to have a very appropriate name. It's just a shorter version of the Sierra right?
My big complaint about the Gatsby kit (which looks very similar to the Sierra) is that it is too big a tube and gets turned down very thin. I know the Sierras have the same size tube, but do they get turned down as thin? I've had several barrels crack when assembling the Gatsby and I believe it is because of the thinness of the turned material.

thanks for the nice comments everyone. doug I didn't think it turned down too thin. The assembly process was very simple I just put it together by hand. Did not need to press together. This is by far the easiest kit to assemble

Seen them, but figured that they were a huge PITA, so I had always just kept searching for something else. But I may try this blank kit if you say it isn't that bad......
I think it looks good on the satin brushed! After all, a lot of cars now-a-days don't have the amount of chrome(if any) that the cars had of year gone by.

scott I am sorry your dog ate your muffin. This inlay kit is the easiest of the 2 I have done. They flag kit is much more tedious and took a hour or so to fit and glue up. I had this one put together and glued up in about 10 minutes. They came with instructions on how to place each piece but I did not even need them. It was real obvoius what went were. A lot of my hot rod buddies said they like it with the brushed finish since that is what a lot of them like now adays anyway. I still think black with chrome is timeless and will always go good together. With that said I like this one too though.

Very nice. First time I think I have seen a flame turned pen. I am going to have to scroll up and look at it again now. It too cool to not do that before I close this page.

thanks guys. I emailed some pics to the people who ordered it and they loved it. They also said if the person who is getting it for a gift loses it they would beat him to a bloody pulp. I told them if he loses it I will make him another one just like it for a nominal fee ;D
