It is White Quartersawn. I water tinted with reddish brown transtine, sanded at 220 to fumed look, then stained using a mix of red chestnut, brown chestnut, toned it down with some natural, then added some Valspar Red Mahogany to warm it up. Yep, the top is next. The reason I tint is because it helps bring out the rays after it is sanded a bit so there is a nice contrast between rays and grain. IT took me a while to figure out this process, but it works for me. dale transtine? Are you sure you don't mean TransTint? (expensive stuff!) (??) A great procedure!!

Yep, transtint. It is about $17 for a two ounce bottle, which diluted makes 2 quarts I think. Rockler occasionally has it on sale for 1/2 price.

I like that Transtint because it's SO versatile...! You can mix it with just about ANYTHING! Poly, water, shellac, lacquer... etc. I think Danish Oil is the only thing it does NOT like isn't it? I was about to order some from the main source, Homestead, but he was going to charge me $10 shipping for just One bottle! (and he called ME an idiot!) Ended up getting it from Rockler & saving money.

Joe, breadboard is still up in the air. I like that look though. Br, right now it is 1 3/8. I will probably take it down an 1/8th or more after inititial glue up (before final glue up) I am gluing up two at a time, then planing before final glue up.

Very Very Cool!!! I've never worked with QSWO, but that has some very nice figure to it. I would be nervous I would screw up some really pretty wood.
